MOM’S ULTIMATE SUMMER SURVIVAL GUIDE

MOM’S ULTIMATE SUMMER SURVIVAL GUIDE

Keeping Cool, Calm and Connected

Does the thought of the summer routine upheaval have you sweating more than the thought of a mid-July heatwave? You’re not alone in the visions of endless “I’m bored” complaints, the daunting task of scheduling activities, and the constant battle with sunscreen application.

But with a mix of planning, patience and a splash of creativity, we can both survive and thrive the rest of the summer.

1. Embrace the Unplanned

First things out of the gate, it’s okay not to have every minute scheduled. Some of our best summer memories can come from unplanned adventures. Remember when a simple backyard campout (complete with burnt marshmallows and ghost stories) became the highlight of the summer? Sometimes, it’s those spontaneous sprinkler runs or picnics in the living room that fill our hearts (and photo albums) with joy. Give yourself the grace to not plan every second and watch the magic of summer unfold.

2. Create a Loose Routine

While embracing the chaos, a loose routine can be a lifesaver. Kids (and let’s be honest, moms too) thrive on some level of routine. Setting a general structure for meals, quiet time, and outdoor play can keep everyone from hitting their meltdown point (including us!). It doesn’t have to be rigid – just a gentle rhythm to our day that provides comfort and predictability amid the summer fun.

3. Local Adventures Await

You don’t need to jet off to exotic locations to make summer memorable. Some of the best adventures await right in your backyard (literally and figuratively). Become a tourist in your own town, exploring local parks, museums and hidden gems. Many places offer special summer programs for kids, giving them a taste of culture and adventure without the hefty price tag. Plus, it’s a fabulous way to connect with other families and build your community.

4. Screen Time Can Be Your Ally

Let’s address the elephant in the room – screen time. While it’s great to limit our little ones’ device use, let’s not demonize it. Used wisely, it can be a valuable tool for education and entertainment (and let’s not forget, a moment’s peace for mom). Set boundaries that work for your family, and don’t beat yourself up when you lean on technology a little more some days. Remember, balance is key, and you’re doing great!

5. Mom Time is Essential

Yes, mama, YOU. You’re at the heart of the family, and taking care of yourself isn’t just important – it’s vital. Whether it’s waking up a bit earlier to enjoy coffee in silence, a weekly yoga class, or simply locking the bathroom door to enjoy a five-minute solo bubble bath, make it happen. These moments of recharge aren’t selfish; they’re necessary for you to be your best self for your family.

6. Celebratory Nights to Remember

Lastly, create mini celebrations throughout the summer. These don’t have to be elaborate. Think ice cream sundae bars on Fridays, stargazing nights, or DIY pizza parties. It’s these little moments that often leave the biggest imprint on our hearts and create a summer filled with joy and connection.

Remember, at the core of all these tips is the undeniable truth that you are an amazing mom. As we navigate this summer, let’s do so with grace for ourselves and each other. Let’s fill our days with laughter, love and a healthy dose of patience. And when all else fails, remember that fall is just around the corner.

Sending you all the sun-kissed vibes and encouragement,
