Mom Journal:

The start of a new year always feels like a blank page, doesn’t it? For moms, it’s an opportunity to reset, refocus, and recharge. And while the chaos of everyday life doesn’t magically pause, taking just a few moments to reflect can make all the difference. Journaling is one of the simplest, yet most powerful, tools for gaining clarity and setting intentions—and the best part? There’s no right or wrong way to do it.

We know you’re busy, so we’ve created five simple prompts to guide you. Whether you write every day, once a week, or whenever you can grab a spare moment, these questions will help you start 2024 with intention and heart. So, grab a notebook and let’s dive in.

1. Gratitude: “What am I grateful for today?”

Gratitude is like a reset button for the soul. It shifts your focus from what’s lacking to what’s already beautiful in your life. Write down at least one thing you’re thankful for each day. Maybe it’s your toddler’s belly laugh, a hot cup of coffee, or simply making it through a tough day. Over time, these little moments add up and become a treasure trove of joy and perspective.

Tip: Keep this prompt short and sweet if you’re pressed for time. Even one sentence can make a difference.

2. Dreams: “What is one thing I want to achieve this year?”

Dreaming isn’t just for kids. As moms, we sometimes forget to dream for ourselves while tending to everyone else’s needs. This year, give yourself permission to dream boldly. It could be something big, like starting a side hustle or going back to school, or something smaller but just as meaningful, like carving out time for a new hobby. Write it down and revisit it often. Your dreams matter.

Encouragement: Don’t worry about the how just yet. Focus on the what and why—the steps will follow.

3. Parenting: “What kind of mom do I want to be?”

Motherhood is full of constant growth, for both you and your kids. Reflecting on the kind of mom you want to be is a powerful way to set parenting intentions. Do you want to be more patient? More playful? Or maybe you want to model resilience or kindness. Write it down. Then, think about one small step you can take to embody that intention today.

Example: If you want to be more present, consider a mini phone-free zone during dinner or bedtime routines.

4. Joy: “What brings me joy, and how can I make more space for it?”

Joy doesn’t have to be extravagant. It’s in the little things: dancing in the kitchen, curling up with a good book, or having a heart-to-heart with a friend. Take a moment to list the things that bring you joy. Then, think about how you can sprinkle more of them into your days. This is your reminder that your happiness matters too.

Challenge: Pick one joyful activity and put it on your calendar this week. It’s not selfish; it’s soul care.

5. Faith: “Where do I see God’s presence in my life right now?”

Life can feel like a blur, but when you pause to reflect, you’ll often find God’s fingerprints all over your story. Maybe it’s in the quiet moments of peace amid the chaos, the strength to keep going, or the people who show up for you when you need them most. Take time to acknowledge His presence and how it shapes your days.

Optional: Use this prompt as a prayer starter, sharing your gratitude and hopes with God.

Whether you’re seasoned at journaling or brand new to the practice, these prompts are here to meet you where you are. Start small, stay consistent, and watch how even a few minutes of reflection can bring clarity, peace, and purpose to your year. Remember, this isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. So, here’s to starting 2024 with intention, one page at a time.

Got a favorite journaling moment or a prompt that resonates with you? Share it with us in the comments or with a friend who might need a little inspiration too. Let’s make this year one of meaningful growth together.
