Carissa Gallo Photography

In the Summer 2014 issue of Hello, Darling, we featured a photo from an amazing Portland, Oregon, photographer Carissa Gallo. She has a knack for capturing life, and we were honored to use one of her photos to capture the feminine beauty of motherhood and pregnancy. She was kind enough to do a little interview, so we could introduce you to her and her work.

What is your favorite beauty product?

I love Evan Healy’s Rosehip Facial Serum.

What are three words your friends use to describe you?

I’m horrible at answering this question! I can answer three words to describe the people I like best: laid back, well-read and interested.

Can you tell us a little bit about the story of the photo we pictured in the magazine?

This is my friend, Naomi. She was pregnant with her second child, and we wanted to capture that unique time she was in – as a mother to one on the outside and one on the inside. She’s now pregnant with her third. This was especially fun because my daughter was with me and capturing that unique mom/daughter bond all together was sweet.

How did you get into photography?

My grandfather gave me all his old film cameras, and the amazing treasure of looking through the albums of photographs he had taken. He inspired me into photography and in many ways is still my largest inspiration.

What is your favorite type of photography?

I don’t really have a favorite type of photography – it’s more like I get itches I need to scratch. I’ll get an idea or find something interesting to me, and I’m a little obsessed until I am able to ‘scratch the itch’.

Do you have kids?

I have two children – Rinah, 11, and River, 10 months.

Anything else interesting that we should know?

There’s a really interesting movie I just watched called Ida by the Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski, you all should know about it.
