A Place for All

A Place for All

Who am I that the highest King would welcome me?
I was lost but He brought me in, Oh, His love for me. …
In my Father’s house there’s a place for me. I’m a child of God,
Yes, I am.”  (“Who You Say I Am,” Hillsong Worship)

How incredible. The father has opened his house to me. The highest king has welcomed me into his family. The good shepherd has found me. God almighty has not only told me there is a place for me, he has shown me through the gift of his Son.

As a child of God, I want others to know there’s a place for them. I want friends and strangers to know of his love for them. I want to share his invitation.

How do I let them know? I can start by opening my heart and home to them. I can invite others in. Into a friendship. Into my home.

For a conversation. For a meal. For a cup of tea. For a rest.
For a word of encouragement or a listening ear.
To be accepted. To be cared for.
To hear truth.
With a smile or a hug.
With a kind word.
With a commitment to follow Christ’s example.

Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV) gives me a clear picture of how Jesus wants me to open my heart and home.

For I [Jesus] was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

In John 14:2, Jesus tells us he is going to prepare a place for us. I will follow his example and prepare a place for others.

He has invited me to supper (Revelation 19:7-9). In Luke 14:13-14, he tells me to invite others. All others. Jesus demonstrated the principle of come as you are, so I do too.

Questions:

  • How can you open your heart to someone today?
  • How can you share your home with someone today?

The Work of Self-Care

I recently read a passage from a book which deconstructs the biblical story of Christ healing a woman with chronic bleeding:  “The healing was thorough and complete. It not only gave her body back to her but also gave her body back to other bodies. She was made whole for herself
